Selling Prescribed debt to debt collectors

I had a loan with them at 10September 2021,unfortunately could not afford ,this year 3 yes later ,the account prescribed and was removed from my credit report the 11th September 2024. Ever since October ,I have debt collectors calling me about this debt,1st it was JER31, however I claimed prescription as defense, then since last week ,I have Core Connect trying to collect on this. I have had numerous calls and back and forth emails with this company ,and explained that this account has prescribed September already, they clarified that Unifi sold this to them on the 15th November ,2 months after the debt prescribed. I’ve noted that it is ******* to sell or collect on prescribed debt according to the National Credit Act . I have now gone as far as lodged a complaint with the NCR and National Financial Ombudsman on Unifis ******* ethics.

Reviewer Update
like I said in the email, debt review doe snot interrupt prescription and we will let the National Financial Ombudsman make the decision on the Prescription Act and the National Credit Act.
Section 11(d) of the Prescription Act 68 of 1969 (the “Act”) provides that a debt prescribes in three years. Debt review applications does not interrupt the running of prescription. What does interrupt prescription is if you either admit to owing the debt or make a payment towards the debt.
And defense of prescription will still stand.
