I hereby explain to the best of my ability how badly we were treated at Unico Academy, Van der Hoff Street, Pretoria My son was in Grade 10 at Unico Academy from the beginning of 2025. There was an incident where my son was caught smoking outside the school grounds. Their rules say, no smoking on the premises. This was caught on camera according to the Unico Academy principal. This was a first offence and my child was told to go home on Monday. We were asked to attend a hearing, which was scheduled for Tuesday but requested to attend it 2 days later as the parents' evening was also on Thursday. And my wife has limited leave due to cancer treatment. As my wife had chemo on Thursday, we asked to be excused from the parents' evening because the chemo was making her very ill. The principal was not happy with the change in arrangements. When we arrived on Thursday afternoon he was already irritated and unfit. The management insisted that both parents attend the hearing and parents' evening. Upon arrival at the centre, I (Andre, father) started asking questions that caused the centre principal to become increasingly unfit. And told his wife (centre management) that she did not need to explain herself and mentioned that she had studied hard and did not need our belittling. After that, the principal turned around and said that he would refund the money and my son could come and get his stationery on Monday. He ordered us to leave the premises because we were not welcome. He turned around and left the office. Please note that I paid 3 months of centre fees in advance and my child was only at the centre for 3 days. He refuses to refund any fees and my child was suspended after the hearing. And that he (Mr. Attie) assured us that he is not a ***** and that he will not ***** our money. It makes me think twice about accepting his word, unfortunately I cannot accept his word, after he promised heart and mouth to return our money.
