The driver demanded a tip and started to get agressive
I ordered a cab from The V&A Waterfront to Cape Town International Airport on 23 March 2025. I left the Hotel at 04:45am. I confirmed the price with the driver, an older man, who confirmed it would be R350 in-front of your Front Office Receptionist at the Hotel I was staying at. Upon arrival at the airport the driver then decides to inform me that card payments are R400 due to bank charges and that he needed a tip. and Even if I were to pay him cash it would still be R400 because he was demanding a tip. I told him the price was R350 which he confirmed in the morning before we left and I did inform him that Uber would have cost me R200. He started to shout and get aggressive because he had to wake up early and apparently I had booked late hence. Yet I booked the taxi at 2pm the day before. I wanted to pay using my card, but he was demanding cash. Drivers should never demand tips, and the price for a ride should always be clear from the get go.
