********* Company

During February 2016 I sent my Isuzu KB250 Compensator engine to Uni Truck & Tractor for a rebuild. I was quoted on a full reconditioning of the engine as follows: new pistons, cylinder liners, rings, bearings, oil pump, water pump, valves, valve guides and thermostat, turbo recon kit, test and calibrate injector pump and overhaul injector nozzles.

On receiving the engine back it was clear that the power delivery was way down, despite a so called "bench hot run and test" which was part of the work. After numerous phone calls, e-mails and stripping the engine again the following were very clear:

Injector nozzels were worn out - had to replace it myself and despite a promised refund from UTT nothing has materialized.

Injector pump timing was out by one tooth - had to pay for this fix myself

Wrong injector pump was fitted to the engine (previous generation KB250D pump) - I had to pay for the correct pump - UTT denies it being incorrect

Blown head gasket after 10 km with new injector pump when power was up to normal. Nino of UTT concluded overheating without seeing the engine.

On stripping the "reconditioned" engine (only done 97 km since the reconditioning) the following were clear:

Only one new piston and liner installed ("new" piston has a crack - scuff marks on other pistons and noticeable wear on liners)

One of the old pistons is also cracked and a piece is missing

No new oil pump or water pump fitted.

Initially Nino, the workshop manager, has flatly denied all these what he calls "allegations". I have taken photos of these parts and sent three e-mails to UTT without any response thus far.

The moral of the story is I have to spend another R35k to get this motor fixed on top of the R45k already spent. Be warned: Never do business with these ********* company.

Good day. Our lack of response to this comment on Hellopeter has simply been that we have been totally unaware of the posting.
Firstly I would like to state that Uni Truck & Tractor has been in the diesel engine business for over 28 years and has supp**** literally thousands of engines to satisfied clients in the transport industry.
We value our clients and any feedback is appreciated.
It is intriguing that Mr Esterhuyse should raise the matter over a year later and I would question his motives.
His assertion that we are ********* is unfounded and scurrilous.
I do not wish to use this platform to either defend or accuse but there are numerous inaccuracies and exaggerations stated.
Firstly our invoice price at the time was R19500 not 45k as stated.
Much of Mr Esterhyse's statements can only be treated as hearsay as we have been unable to verify any of the aspects, as the engine is in his possession.
Furthermore Mr Nino has not been with the company for over 9 months
This engine carries a 100 000 kms/ one year warranty and procedurally should have been returned to us for inspection and report.
The first time I was made aware of this problem was last week when I personally contacted Mr Esterhuyse after receiving an email from him.
I requested him to supply me the details of the matter and I would investigate.
It is unfortunate that he had already chosen this forum to publicly cast spurious allegations before I had the opportunity to investigate and reply to him.
The fact that Mr Esterhuyse has conducted independent repairs to the engine is in breach of the warranty conditions.
Even though this matter is over a year old, as a gesture of goodwill, we would request him to return the engine to us for inspection and evaluation.
Our policy has always been to assist the client and we will resolve this situation.
