Surgery Denied
I have been with the scheme,paying almost R6000 a month on their supreme benefit. I have always had a problem with large breasts and every doctor I have seen has recommended that I need a reduction. Seeing as they are causing me serious medical problems.....I approached my consultant and asked her if its something the medical aid would pay,and she said to me and even made phone calls to ask if its possible. They said to me,I must go see a surgeon for a motivational letter and I did just that....then it was sent to them. I have just received their response declining because it's a scheme exclusion. Nothing else...what baffles me is that the consultant knew this and still made me hope that my medical issues will be resolved. Now I'm at work crying because my dreams have been crushed by the people who promised to take care of my medical needs! Thank you for the lies Umvuso,I had planned on continuing with you but I guess I'll be moving along to another medical aid that actually cares for their people. And to think I recommended you to people.....but not to worry,I'll be informing them of the kind of treatment you give your clients in dire need.

You will find that most medical schemes do not pay for breast reduction, as it is regarded as a cosmetic treatment. Unless of course it impacts one's health directly, in which case the treating doctor would have to send detailed motivation, and this would be reviewed by the clinical team, and if they are satisfied that all criteria has been met, the procedure may be approved.
