DSTV con artist

My complaint is very detailed, please bear with me as it provides context to the problem.

On 11th April 15, I purchased to Exploras and Multichoice recommended Jeremy Perumal from Ultra High Frequencies as an accredited DSTV installer for my area in Brackendowns. Jeremy, the owner, installed two Exploras at a cost of R2500.

In 1 July this year, my primary decoder showed an error E48-32. I contacted Jeremy for assistance. Jeremy came out to address the problem and told me that the problem was with my LNB and he would have to replace it with a new smart LNB. He mentioned that he receives quite a bit of complaints regarding the old LNB's and the quality wass not of a high standard. Based on his recommendation, I agreed to make the change and he took under 10 minutes to fix the problem at a cost of R2000. When I requested a receipt he very calmly told me that he had just issued his last receipt from his receipt book but will mail me the receipt on Monday 3rd July and I dont have to worry as his work was guaranteed for a year.

It was after he had left that I noticed that he had removed both the multi-connectors for the Primary and Seccondary decoders, the old LNB and the power connector box for the secondary ExploraOn Sunday 2nd July I chatted to DSTV consultants at both Makro and Game around the problem I had. Both were very surprised around the high cost and even more alarmed by the removal of the items as these were not faulty.

I received an invoice on 5th July with the following breakdown:

Smart LNB supp**** and installed R 1749.99 plus VAT

Programming Primary and secondary decoder for Smart installation

Service charge—Call out fee– Standard Labour cost

I sent an email to Jeremy requesting Jeremy to resubmit with a proper breakdown and also had the intention of addressing the missing items after I had received a proper invoice. After numerous requests, I forwarded an email to Jeremy on 18th July voicing my dissatisfation with him for not providing a proper invoice and also informing him that the items removed were ,without permission, and I would lay a charge of theft against the company. Jeremy apologised profusely and told me that his assistant Thabo had 'thrown' the "faulty" items in my bin ( too late for me to check the bin). He was adament that the R2000 charge was fair. I decided to let the matter rest and agreed to move on.

I eventually got an updated invoice on 18th July with the following breakdown:

Smart LNB supp**** and installed R 599.99

Programming Primary and secondary decoder for Smart installation R 577.19

Service charge—Call out fee– Standard Labour cost R 572.81

On Monday 29th August, I received the same error message E48-32, I called the Multi-choice call centre and after several attempts to rectify the problem, I was told that I would need to contact an installer. As the work was still under guarantee, I contacted Jeremy. We agreed for him to come out the next day. He did so late on Tuesday 30th August. As I was at work, Jeremy told me telephonically that my Primary Explora was faulty and I would need a new Explora. Without me having the technical knowledge, I accepted that the Explora was faulty and told him that, as I had no choice, I would have to buy a new Explora. Jeremy informed me that once I have the new decoder, I could install it myself and he would whats app me the frequency details.

The same afternoon, I bought a new Explora and installed using the old. Later that evening. I contacted Jeremey and he talked me through the tuner frequency set up. The connection failed. Jeremy then informed me that he will come out on Wednesday 31st August. He did so in the morning and within 5 minutes the new Explora was operational.

I spoke to him telephonically after the installation and he mentioned that there was a problem with the cable which was loose and when I asked him about the "old" decoder he was adament that the "old" Explora was also faulty and would I mind if he took the old Explora for testing and he would send me an email to discuss more around the old Explora. He told me he would send me a form granting him permission to take the old decoder in to check out the fault.

I received an email from Jeremy later at 16h02 with a change of ownership form to complete. When I got home later on Wednesday evening my wife informed me that Jeremy took the old Explora together with the new fittings and the new remote. I immediately called Jeremy to find out why the new fittings and the new remote was removed. His response was that he was unaware that Thabo his assistant had also packed these items in the Explora box (even though he sat 2 metres from him). Once again he apologised profusely and again shifted the blame to Thabo. I voiced my dissatisfaction and we agreed that I will collect the old Explora and the attachments which I did, from his home, and I would take the old Explora to be tested myself.

On Thursday 1st September, I contacted Multi-choice and was informed that there was no need for any forms to be completed for testing and indications were already there that the installer had other intentions for me to complete the change of ownership.

On Friday 2nd September, I took the old Explora to an accredited dealer in Alberton and within a few minutes I was shown that the old Explora was in perfect condition.

Today, I contacted Jeremy and informed him that his ********* conduct showed his poor character and I would be be taking this complaint to all social media avenues and how many other unsuspecting people have been ********** by this con artist.

As an accredited DSTV installer to Multi Choice, I have highlighted my complaint to them as well.

Please be wary of the very smooth talking Jeremy Perumal from Ultra High Frequencies
