Total ripoff - Questionable charges Italy rent

<p>We rented a car on the internet through Rentalcars for our trip to Florence Italy.</p> <p>We picked the car up from Interrent car hire company in Florence - car was dirty and had no water in the wiper reservoir - and we had to walk with our suitcases along a busy highway to locate Interrent - they dont tell you this.</p> <p>The car was checked by the Interrent agent and us and all looked OK apart from the fact that they had omitted to note significant damage to the right front rim on the contract sheet.</p> <p>On returning the car the Interrent agent went straight to the front door key hole and said it had been damaged by theives (we had remote locking and unlocking???) - and subtracted +_R6400 from my deposit.</p> <p>The agent now told us that this was a common incident. However the keyhole was never checked by the agent when we took the car and neither was this "common type of incident" brought to our attention.</p> <p>So we cannot be sure that in fact the car was not hired out with the keyhole already damaged and I have a strong feeling the latter!!</p> <p>I have requested an invoice from Interrent Florence - no reply to date - and I have filled in a claim form with Rentalcars - no rely to date - so this would appear to be a long path ahead.</p> <p>Based on my experience my advice would be to NOT rent any car from Rentalcars and or Interrent as both companies appear to be not above board.</p> <p>Maybe stick to Avis - they are a little more expensive but probably more reachable from SA</p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
