They give the Learners Zero marks without evidence of wrongdoing

The school issues sanction letters and gives the learner a zero for subjects. There is no evidence of wrongdoing. The appeal is not considered and there are no options to communicate constructively.

The call centre agents an WhatsApp and email send you links to their policies rather than actually answering questions.

Good day Vashnee,

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.

At UCT Online High School, academic integrity is fundamental to ensuring that every learner is assessed fairly and that the qualifications our learners earn remain credible. Where potential assessment irregularities are identified during a proctored assessment, each case is reviewed individually by the School Assessment Irregularity Committee in accordance with our published Assessment Integrity Policy. Decisions are based on the available assessment evidence and are not made solely on automated monitoring or system-generated alerts.

Where a sanction is issued, learners and guardians are informed via email about the irregularity, the release of the sanction letter, and the formal appeals process. The appeals process provides an independent review of both the original evidence considered and any additional information submitted by the learner or guardian. Each appeal is assessed on its own merits before a final decision is reached.

We recognise that assessment outcomes can be distressing, particularly where there is disagreement with the decision or the process followed. Our Support Team is responsible for assisting learners and guardians by responding to individual queries, providing clarification on our assessment integrity processes, and explaining the application of the relevant school policies and procedures where relevant.

We are aware that you are currently engaging with the support team regarding this matter. A member of our team will continue engaging with you directly to provide further clarity on the concerns you have raised, while ensuring the matter is addressed in accordance with our established processes.

With you in the pursuit of wisdom,
UCT Online High School

My engagement has consistently been met with a lack of understanding and a bombardment of verbose communications that are lacking in substance.

There is no constructive engagement from anyone in the support team. My communications have to be repeated several times and the responses simply skirt around issues.

To be clear - I still haven't received evidence of wrongdoing. Pictures sent initially showed no wrongdoing. A request for justification of yor claims were never responded to.

Eventually on appeal, we were simply advised that you stand by your decision. On further communications, finally, a new set of pictures were sent to justify your claim. This was new information, unrelated to the first set of pictures and no opportunity was provided to respond.

As a legal specialist, I made it clear that your sanctions process is flawed because a sanction is issued without evidence of wrongdoing and without providing the Learner with an opportunity to test what you claim to be evidence.

The first letter was received during the exam period, but not challenges were accepted and nothing could be done until after reports are issued, almost a whole month later.

The sanction appeal portal once opened, only caters for errors made, misunderstanding of the assessment process or requesting leniency, in other words asking for forgiveness and acceptance of wrongdoing.

There is no consideration for the lack of evidence and the onus that falls on the accuser to prove their case.

The amounts of hoops I had to jump thr to resolve this issue is not in the best interest of the child and is exceptional poor customer service from your side.

This I find to be unacceptable.
