Failure, damage control and stressed children
I agree with the previous parent who said that "this is not an online school but is a distance learning school and the poor student is left on his own without a teacher". For the entire first term our children received nothing but stress - an online system that crashed continually, a ridiculous amount of work to get through and not a support coach or teacher (virtually) in sight. They speak of "self-pace" and then let your child fall so far behind that they can never catch up - all while being a cheer leader like "you got this" but not offering the actual assistance your child needs. Now the school wakes up to implement "damage control" by changing the time schedules for these students adding even more stress. Where was the prompting in Term 1 when the teachers and support coaches noticed these kids falling behind?? Where was your "real time analytics and data dashboards to see which learners are falling behind, enabling us to keep every learner on track." Where was this in Term 1? Or even at the start of Term 2?? As a single mom with a full time job, I entrusted my child's education to you, UCT Online High School - and I honestly feel that you have failed us both, but more so my child. I am very disappointed and frustrated. Teething problems are one thing, but this mess is beyond me.
