Beware!
Prof. Harry G. Frankfurt wrote a little book called On Bull**** wherein he determines that bull**** is speech intended to persuade without regard for truth. The **** cares about the truth and attempts to hide it; the bull****ter doesn't care if what they say is true or false, but rather only cares whether their listener is persuaded. Jacques Lessing of Ubunye Projects is a bull****ter extraordinaire, and his business is bull****ting. He has one impressive website that does not contain an ounce of truth. It is all bells and whistles with lots of name dropping and serves the same purpose as the pictures of hamburgers in your favourite take away joint. What you see and what you get is worlds apart. I struggled to get a builder. Those who promised to come for a quotation never showed, and those who did never sent the promised quotations. And then this guy shows up after he heard of my planned building from a third party. He was very enthusiastic and made all the right noises, provided a quotation and then tried to push me to get the project going but I refused to move an inch until the plans were approved by council. The day the plans were approved was the last joyful day of the project. He promised that there would always be supervision but in the first month he went through two foremen who were hardly ever on site anyway. They were not replaced and thereafter there was barely any supervision. It became apparent that he was not remotely fami**** with the plans and that he hardly looked at them. Building was done wrong and when I pointed it out he said he would do it my way as he wants a happy client, to which I responded that it is not about what I want but what the plans require. The whole project was characterised by doing things over and seldom doing them right the first time. Planning was almost non-existent, managing the project even less so and he simply did not care for details or the quality of workmanship. He dumped the workers in the morning, gave orders and left only to come and pick them up in the afternoons without any attempt to examine the day’s work or the quality thereof. Things would only be rectified if I complained. The front of the building was more complicated and had to be redone five times. The only reason it was correct the last time was because I made a cardboard template for guidance. He quoted for things that were never delivered and when I deducted it, he said those funds had to be redirected for other requirements, but these were things he already quoted for. Every issue I took up with him, he always had an answer ready. He is *******; he pays Tshwane employees under the table for skips to use for an unlimited time. He uses an unqualified electrician whom I refused to complete the wiring after I discovered that he was unqualified. The last straw was when his carpenter fu… messed up two expensive doors. I fired him and I am losing a lot of money as this bull****ter was “honest” with me about his cash flow problems and I accommodated him. But as more things were removed from the quotation it ended up with him being paid in full. I now have to pay for rubble removal, completion of the wiring and painting and the screeding of the floor, all things I already paid him for. Contract? There is none. I know, shame on me as I was bull****ted into it being unnecessary. I sincerely hope he enjoys his trip on the karma train.
