What century are we living in???

My friend and I wanted to check out the club on Friday evening, but we were denied entrance because we were wearing sneakers. The guys with us could go in wearing the same type of shoe. Now I know that these places have a dress code, but why are the guys allowed to wear what they want but the girls have to adhere to a dress code?? I think it is ***ist and unacceptable.
