Tygerberg High Care Unit (Covid - ICU ward) I am saddended by the lack of communication from this specific sector of Tygerberg Hospital.

My uncle tested positive for COVID-19. On Friday 02.07.2021 I called an ambulance for assistance past 4 the afternoon, got a call back past 9 the evening that thay are on their way to the address provided. He was then taken to Delft day hospital where he was treated outside in the cold with oxygen. Delft transfered him to Eersteriver the same Friday. Saturday 03.07.2021 Eersteriver advised that they do not have the facilities that is needed for him and transfered him to Tygerberg Hospital, hence being moved to ICU because of his oxygen level. On numerous occasions we tried contacting the facility to get updates on how he is doing, amidts the fact that we speak and contact him via whatsapp. During the cause of last week and this week, his wife has spoken to more than 1 "doctor" only to find out yesterday 13.07.2021 that the "doctor's" she speaks to are phycologists. Yesterday, during the day he confirmed telephonically that he feels 100% ok, last night she called for another update and "Dr Meintjies" gave an update that he is not doing well and had no idea that the patient had picked up pneumonia and that his wife should speak to the day shift doctor. As far as my knowledge strethes, a COVID patient should not be laid on his/her back...they had him in a prone position (laying on his stomach) and is oxygen levels were fine, 89 to be exact! "Dr Deon" was the other doctor that gave feedback. 10 days of isolation is over now, but they arent able to move him to a normal/NON COVID ICU ward!! The concern is the incompetencies of the doctors. They are the ones dealing with the patients on a daily. With restrictions from visiting hours, shouldnt they be the ones going the extra mile to give the family feedback on the patients progresses??!! I thought much about Tygerberg hospital but after this experience with my uncle I give them all thumbs down! You guys are pathetic and for me personally, I think you only doing this for the benefits attached to the job. "ANY JOB THAT REQUIRES CARE FOR OTHERS SHOULD BE A CALLING, NOT JUST FOR A PAYCHECK"! I sincerely wish and hope my uncle gets out of that hopspital stronger and healthier than before. I will keep on praying for "doctors" like you.
