A mediocre airline

We boarded our plane at 2 am in Istanbul. We were then given a full meal and that was the last time we saw any flight attendants until the following day at 10 am, two hours prior to landing in Cape Town. Is this the norm??? We had to go without any drink of snacks for 8 hours. Nobody came round during the night to offer water or juice. Is it the norm to be on a plane for 8 hours with not refreshments offered. We became hungry to say the least. I had some snacks to carry us through. My husband is a diabetic and needs to have something at a decent time in the morning. I also booked my seats online and were given different seats when we boarded. I will not fly with this airline again, if I can help it. There is just very little hospitality in general, starting with the ground staff.
