Replacing Turbo
My 2011 Fortuner 3 L D 4 D was diagnosed by Toyota Menlyn with a turbo problem at the end of Sept 2015. Has done 55000 km at the time with service record up to date. Car was bought new with a 3 year warranty and a 5 year service plan.. Experienced no serious problems and did not extend the warranty. Nine months out of warranty the turbo needed replacement. It was clear that Toyota new exactly what was wrong and 3 quotations from 3 different dealers varied between R25 000 and R26 000. Not one of them offered to take this up with Toyota SA. I did my own research and decided to have a reconditioned turbo fitted by Turboworks, costing around R 9000. Absolutely professional service and advice with a 12 month warranty. The team replaced the turbo the same day as agreed and the Fortuner feels great. This is the kind of service I would have expected from Toyota but I got none of that. Seriously disappointed with them. They simply said I am welcome to contact the customer care service myself as they also were of the opinion that the km are a bit low for this to have happened. The noise was so bad and the cost so high that I decided to rather opt for Turboworks. Highly recommended.
