Tsonga produces fine products that are sorely let down by their staff. My sister gave me a pair of sandals for my birthday and received excellent service at the La Lucia store, but that’s where the good service story ends. When I went to the Nicolway store to exchange the sandals for a better fit, the sales assistant was apathetic, uninterested and unhelpful. When questioned about this, she said she was feeling unwell. I’d highly recommend that Tsonga refrains from having unwell sales staff unable to perform their jobs in their stores. The sales person then proceeded to ring up the sandals at their full price, despite the fact that the sandal on display had two prices – the original and the marked down prices – and was on the sale table. She removed the sale price sticker and adamantly refused to honour the sale price, contravening the Consumer Protection Act. She claimed that ‘customers switch stickers’ and that perhaps the colour I had chosen may not be on sale. Subsequent communication with head office was met with no apology but with the offer of a R100 gift voucher ‘towards a future purchase’. The concerns I raised were not addressed at all. So I have a fabulous pair of sandals and a strong distaste for Tsonga. It’s a great pity that the superb service at La Lucia proved to be the exception rather than the norm.
