Postnatal ward!

Postnatal ward: Firstly, the state of the toilets was appalling. There were no proper toilet paper dispensers, no toilet seats, and the only option was to use hard hand paper towels from a large, heavy roll. Furthermore, there were no lights in the bathroom, and many of the locks were broken only two toilets available - for over 20 postpartum mothers, which made it very inconvenient and uncomfortable for patients.

One of the most concerning incidents occurred on our last day at the hospital. A cleaning crew entered the postnatal ward and began having all the beds moved to one side of the room. They then proceeded to use large amounts of cleaning chemicals on the floors, right next to two-day-old babies. The smell was overpowering, and I found it difficult to breathe, resulting in severe headaches. I was shocked when the cleaning lady dismissed my concerns, claiming it was not a big deal if the babies inhaled the chemicals because there were doctors present. However, there were no doctors in sight, only sisters and nurses.

The lack of consideration for the health and well-being of newborns was alarming. It's unacceptable that such toxic chemicals were used in an enclosed space with no ventilation or masks provided. Even the nurses wore masks and had to retreat to another room due to the smell, while I had to endure it directly without any protection. The fact that I had to ask for something just to fan myself and my newborn, being overwhelmed by the smell speaks volumes about the lack of care and attention to patient comfort and safety.

Overall, my experience giving birth at Tswane District Hospital was marred by poor hygiene, lack of basic amenities, and disregard for the health of patients and newborns. It's disheartening that such conditions exist in a healthcare facility, and I hope that my feedback will prompt improvements to ensure that other mothers do not have to endure similar experiences in the future.

Overall experience of the nurses and sisters, some of them are very caring and kind. A helping hand now and then would be nice while our bodies are recovering from having a c-section and can bearly lift ourselves. And for goodness sake. Open a window now and then.
