A treasure of the beaten track

After a stroll along the Durban promenade my lady Noula asked if she could take me to a place that was different from the norm for a lunch treat. Always eager for new experiences I told her that I was keen.

We left the beachfront and headed north ending up quite high up North Coast Road in what appeared to be an commercial business area. Noula directed me to a small carpark and I noticed a small sign at the bottom of an iron staircase saying TSD.

We climbed the stairs and found ourselves a table on the spacious balcony overlooking industria. The balcony was around seventy percent full as was the large room inside.

Our waiter arrived promptly with menus and we made our choices. I went for the quarter mutton bunny and Noula chose a mutton roti.

Whilst enjoying a cold beer waiting for our food to arrive, we overheard a large family on the table next to us discussing the menu. One of the youngsters asked "What is hake and chips Daddy?" He rep**** "Don't worry about that, it's there for the Witous." I nearly spat my beer out trying to suppress my laughter!

We died not have to wait long for our food which was delivered piping hot. My quarter bunny looked closer to a half bunny and was crammed full with curry. For a millisecond or two I looked for cutlery before remembering that the only way to chow a bunny is with your fingers. I climbed in with gusto. What a treat for the taste buds! Plenty of tender mutton, soft potatoes and a rich flavoursome gravy. I almost managed to finish, leaving only a small piece of bread that hadn't absorbed any curry. I was definitely most satiated! Noula too raved about her roti.

Despite it's ***** location and lack of signage (making it hard to find for people that haven't been there before, (Maybe a cunning plan - a nod to Baldrick - to keep this the hidden gem that it is!) I cannot not recommend this place highly enough. A chilled and family friendly vibe with generous portions of well prepared and delicious food sold at fair prices.
