Told not to go ahead

Two years ago we made an appointment with the relevant attorneys to state our case. We paid approximately R 700.00 to see the lawyer for an hour. We stated the facts and were told not to go ahead because on a technical glitch we will lose the case and we would be held responsible for both parties legal fees. I get an account two days ago for over a R 1000.00 because they went ahead. I still don't have the R 13 000.00 that I wanted to sue my tenant but I have to pay them? Moneymaking scheme if you ask me.
