Inaccurate Credit Reporting and Frustration with Paid Services

I am extremely disappointed with TransUnion’s handling of my credit profile. You have listed a prescribed debt as open and in arrears, despite previous reports indicating that the account was written off by the service provider. Other credit bureaus have already updated this information, yet TransUnion remains the only one reflecting outdated and incorrect data.

This error is severely damaging my credit standing and causing unnecessary stress. To make matters worse, your paid services offer little value when the underlying information is so inaccurate. It feels as though you are exploiting already distressed consumers instead of providing a reliable and transparent service.

I urge you to urgently investigate and correct this matter. Consumers deserve better.

I’m extremely disappointed in the way TransUnion has handled a serious credit reporting issue that continues to harm my financial standing.
My ABSA personal loan account that was clearly marked as “Written Off” in May 2024, as per my credit report downloaded in December 2024. Now, in my latest report (May 2025), the written-off status has mysteriously disappeared and been replaced with “No Update (NU)”, while the account still reflects 150+ days in arrears. This is not only misleading — it’s legally questionable.
I had a prolonged back and forth with Sumaya, Zinhle, and Garvin from the TransUnion team. Despite explaining the situation and even presenting clear, dated screenshots of both reports, I received vague, copy-paste-style responses with no meaningful resolution. I was told that TransUnion had received no updates from ABSA — yet somehow, the May 2024 status changed from “W” to “NU” without explanation. How is that possible?
This type of reporting misrepresents my credit status, violates the National Credit Act, and contradicts guidance from the National Credit Regulator, which clearly states that written-off debt may not remain listed or be reintroduced under a different label after the 12-month retention period.
I have now formally requested that this listing be removed entirely. If TransUnion does not take action, I will escalate this matter to the Credit Ombud and the NCR.
Consumers deserve accuracy and fairness — not confusion, delay, and dismissiveness. Do better, TransUnion.
