Unfair and ********* dismissal
My husband was dismissed from work with a letter dated 15/12/2016. The thing is there was a strike by another division that resulted on the road being blocked. Nevertheless, he and his colleagues proceeded to work as soon as the road was cleared. They only found out about their predicament on 09/01/2017 when they went to report for work on the first day. They were given letters of their dismissal. That was grossly so unfair because 1. They hadn't participated in the strike as it wasn't their department's 2. They were neither given a verbal nor a written warning 3. They were not given their 'sacking' funds. They consulted Untu and Satawu unions with the hope of an intervention as per their promise, only to be sent from pillar to post. So far nothing has materialised with the unions. These men are sole bread winners in their houses, they have rents and bonds to pay, school fees, retail accounts and car instalments to pay. Children's school fees must be paid, food must be bought. They are at their wit's end as they do not know what to do anymore. To make matters worse, one of them went to claim his funds from Momentum only to be told the monthly contribution from the employer han't stopped despite his services being terminated by transnet. Can any official from Transnet Freight Rail RME (Durban) explain what is going on? Because it seems as if the officials -that- be have folded their arms and are enjoying this saga.
