My wife and I had to board the Shosholoza Meyl Train from De Aar at 1.35 am on 30 March 2016. We arrived at the station one hour early 12.30am as required. The train arrived at 5am. The De Aar station is so primitive, has no cafe or restaurant to purchase refreshments. The waiting area has hard wooden benches which passengers had to sleep on during the early hours of the morning whilst waiting for the train in the cold. The coaches used were extremely old, toilets stinks as there was no water coming thru when u pressed the pedal. I now see why tourist think of us as a third world country as our standards have been lowered. the train was dirty, the fumes from the brakes was unbearable. We spoke to the train manager to move us to the back of the train as the fumes was affecting my wife's chest. I shall never again travel with Transnet as their standards are shockingly worst than a third world country. We arrived 3 hrs late in cape town at 18.30pm, shocking
