Disappointed with Transnet's Lack of Assistance in Tracing My Late Grandfather's Pension Benefit
I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the lack of assistance I have received from Transnet regarding my late grandfather's historical pension and possible death benefit.
My grandfather, worked for the South African Railways and Harbours in Bloemfontein and passed away . Following his death, my family was reportedly informed that a benefit had been registered in the name of his daughter, who was still a minor at the time.
For years, my family has been trying to establish what happened to this benefit. We approached Transnet for assistance but were referred to Momentum. When we contacted Momentum, we were informed that their system did not contain those records.
This has left us going around in circles, with no clear answers about my grandfather's employment records, pension fund membership, or what happened to the benefit.
I have now taken the additional step of submitting a formal PAIA request to Transnet in an effort to obtain the relevant historical records. I should not have to keep approaching different institutions without anyone clearly explaining which organisation is responsible for helping us trace these records.
This situation is deeply frustrating because we are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for answers, transparency and assistance in establishing what happened to a possible benefit arising from my grandfather's employment and death.
I am calling on Transnet to take this matter seriously.
I sincerely hope Transnet will respond to this complaint and help us bring clarity to a matter that has remained unresolved for far too long.
