Provident fund unpaid

Good day All i am sitting with a big problem which i dont know what to do anymore. If i can get some help will be good.

my ex employer has been deducting my provident fund and it shows on my payslip however it was not getting paid into that account. After 5 years i left due to a better job i claimed from the funder and i was told only x amount is in there so i asked why is there so less. I was told that that is all that was paid into this account and this account which is the companies are under arears. i took it up to the lawyer and i was told it will cost me R120k to fight this process. The money owing to me is way less then that so what's the us fighting for something that i wont even smell with that prices. i have spoken the the employer hand all he says im dealing with it and now im out of that company for 3 years and then i was told this year that the company is under liquidation but not finalized. and now he has opened another company called Engine Control systems KZN. How can i be helped please.
