Traffic Department

<p>I have recently tried to renew my PDP at municipal traffic departments in Uitenhage, Kirkwood and Willowmore, all in the Eastern Cape. In Uitenhage, the machine to test eyesight has been broken for at least 5 months. In Willowmore, the eye testing machine would not switch on on the morning I arrived there. In Kirkwood, I have twice been told that the man who does the testing is not at work on that day. When I asked when he would again be at work, I was told to phone each morning at 7.30 to see if he would be present. I live on a farm at a distance of 1 to 1 1/2 hours' drive from each of these centres. It is a costly and time consuming effort for me to try to get to a traffic department but I don't know what to do next. </p> <p>Having had this frustrating experience - which is still far from being resolved - it scares me when I think that the State wants to take more control over so many areas of the economy.</p>
