Taxi commuters

Yesterday our taxi got pulled over by the traffic cops and the driver got arrested on the spot. We as commuter were just left in the middle of the road to organise our own way home. I feel this is unfair for us as commuters. Is there a way for traffic department to do their job but also consider for the commuters?
