Excessive

Beaufort West needs a serious look at their public relations. I was stopped at a road block entering the town. I was fined R500 for not displaying the license disc on my baggage trailer. Not for speeding or driving dangerously. Very friendly traffic officers who understood the circumstances why the disc was not displayed. On advice of the officer, within a week of getting back to Johannesburg I sent a copy of the fine and a copy of the valid license disc to the Traffic Court Prosecutor. I received a reply where the fine was reduced from R500 to R400. As a pensioner this is , in my opinion, excessive for an infringement of this nature. I have passed through Beaufort West many times in the past 50 years and lately at least eight times per year. I spend on average R1,500 on fuel and in the shops. Sometimes , if I can, I overnight in one of the lovely accommodations which is extra. This incident has left a bad taste and I will seriously reconsider stopping in Beaufort West again. I have paid the fine. Kind Regards Ken Bezuidenhout.
