Does the Vredenburg traffic licensing department help anyone?
On the Wednesday, the 27th of September I decided to renew my mother's license disks as they were set to expire on the 30th. I brought what I thought were the necessary documents. I was informed then and there that the license disks in question had expired over a year ago and I had to pay the cost for the license plus the penalties. For some reason, the payment we made at the Boksburg license department was removed. I was told to call them and find out. It's nearly impossible to reach them by phone. I was also told that I need proof to show that my mother is no longer in the country and the letter she sent me to renew her licenses required more detail.
I returned on Friday with the amended documents and the money, prepared to pay arrears and license penalties. As I stood there in that line, I noticed person after person being rejected while trying to renew a license because they had missed a small detail on the form or had uncertified ID copies. Confident that I had every detail handled I stepped up next, only to be told that they can't change the address cause the supervisor isn't in. My mother had since moved from Boksburg to the Western Cape and had also required them to change her address as well as the registration on the license disk. I was told to come back on Monday when the supervisor was in which meant that it was around the start of a new day so I would incur more penalties on the license disks. Never mind the R300 rand I have to pay for petrol, but this is unfair. Who does the bureaucracy help? All I wanted to do was pay and move on. What's the point of having the Traffic Department open if they don't want to or can't help you?
