Trafalgar Instructs Security to Test Temp and Quarantine
Trafalgar notice in my building: 1) Security gaurd to test residents temperature - where is the Medical training ? 2) Temperature over 37 deg will be escorted to apartment and quarantine for 14 days - where is the medical evidence of temperature over 38 being a fever and where is the legal right to enforce a quarantine 3) COVID positive cases to report to Chairman who ensures confidentiality - According to national disaster plan this is confidential information - POPI Act infringements and violation of privacy 4) Who is verifying the equipment Trafalgar? Is it calibrated ? How about variations due to medical conditions, environmental factors, hormones etc ? 5) Does the security gaurds keep a record of my medical information and where ? Legalities ?

Please note that the notice was put up on the instructions of the Trustees as they want to ensure that all people who enter the building are screened as they are trying to maintain a safe environment for everyone. Please be advised that they are not going to force you to be tested and if you do not want to be tested then that is your decision. However, we are in stage 4 of the Lockdown and the body corporate needs to implement various monitoring tools to ensure a minimum level of compliance with all people, residents / staff/ workers etc. in African Palms. Under the circumstance the Trustees are not health experts and are only screening temperature as a possible indicator if one is unwell or not. African Palms has a multitude of people from different backgrounds and these include scholars, workers, businessman etc. As the government eases up the lockdown procedures, the regulation requires are us to maintain social distancing, sanitising, wearing of face masks, reporting if a person has a high temperature which are the minimum requirements to prevent the spread of the infectious virus. The Trustees are doing the bare minimum in terms of cooperation with the Government Emergency Regulations in preventing the spread of the virus. There are enough videos where temperature screening is carried out during this pandemic. The Trustees are not at liberty to go into the merits of the calibration of the equipment and the other factors that need to be included in screening and testing. Should there be a Covid 19 case in the building, more stringent measures become enforceable and may require everyone to go for testing and could result in the temporary closure of the building. This is just a screening process which is nationally and internationally accepted and remains in compliance with the regulation. This is not an invasion or infringement of ant constitutional rights. However as good citizens the trustees humbly and with respect request a degree of cooperation from everyone without intellectualising the pandemic and the merits contained in the email.
