Unfair and Misleading Cancellation Fee for Pineapple Telematics Device

I am extremely disappointed with Tracker and how they handle their so-called “telematics” contracts that come through Pineapple Insurance.

When I first signed up with Pineapple, I was told that a Tracker telematics device would be installed in my vehicle to record my mileage for insurance benefits. At no point was I informed that this would result in a 36-month contract directly with Tracker — I was under the impression that the device was simply part of my insurance policy.

After cancelling my Pineapple policy, I was shocked to find out that I am now personally liable for a cancellation fee with Tracker. This was never clearly explained upfront, and I was never given a proper contract or breakdown of costs from Tracker before installation.

I find this practice ********* and misleading, especially since customers are not clearly told that they are entering into a long-term agreement with a third party. The device is simply a telematics tracker — it’s not a service I continue to use independently — yet I’m being penalized for cancelling something I didn’t knowingly sign up for.

I would strongly caution anyone dealing with Pineapple or Tracker to get full written clarity on what you are agreeing to before installation. What looks like a small device to track your driving can turn into a hidden 3-year financial obligation that’s very difficult to get out of.
