Good luck cancelling, you'll pay forever!
My partner and I have emigrated from South Africa and have been trying to do it the right way; i.e. we've been settling all our debts and paying all our dues before leaving. Many people don't and just up and leave the country and cut all losses but we didn't want to be "those people". Tracker seems determined to teach me that I'm a fool for trying to be a good guy.
So, in the process of paying all my dues I contacted Tracker Connect and received a quote in August 2019 to settle the remaining period on my contract (obviously my car had been sold because I was leaving the country). The quote was R800 and I agreed to the amount and it would be debitted from my account on the 1st of September 2019. Now, because I was leaving the country, I had placed most of my money elsewhere and only left what I needed in my cheque account to pay up and settle my various contracts. Luckily I did this because, to my shock, Tracker debitted me R1200 not R800! That's a 50% increase in the price I was quoted! Anyway, this payment was reversed because I didn't have enough money in the account and I contacted Tracker, who stood by the new amount and told me that I owed them R1200. I requested the voice recording from my phone call and long story short they agreed that I had been quoted R800 not R1200.
So the first part is an irritation but now the second part is where I get very, very mad. After confirming with consultants at Tracker that I do in fact owe R800 not R1200, I advised them that I am altering my account before leaving the country (downgraded my banking package to the basic minimum because I now had an overseas bank account and my SA account would just be for tax purposes) and that I wanted to settle the contract before leaving the country in September. The consultant advised me to make a direct deposit to the Tracker account and forward the proof of payment to their finance department. I did so but lo and behold I just got debitted another R800 on the 1st October! I am still trying all avenues to reach Tracker from overseas to sort this out (lodged an enquiry online and tried emailing the past consultants I've dealt with) but I am being ignored and will most likely continue to be debitted for years to come (reversed and stopped debit order).
Bottom line, avoid Tracker. There are many companies in South Africa that offer the same or better service and don't try and cheat the customer. I feel like I am just another statistic because you always hear stories like this from other people. It's almost as if Tracker flagged my contract with a little star next to it saying "he's emigrating, he won't notice 120 dollars going missing and even if he does he won't bother with another 80 dollars". Honestly it's ******** and luckily I have family in South Africa who can help me handle this the right way, the legal way. Tracker needs to sort out thair system and send me a statement saying I've settled their contract!
