Failure to Track Vehicle

I have been paying and using Tracker since we have purchased the vehicle 31/03/2014 that is 4 years. And we were never contacted during that time to let us know we need to test the tracking unit or that they cannot be held liable for not tracking and recovering the vehicle.

Tracker Customer No# **********

On the 8 January 2018 we were held up at gunpoint in our home and the armed perpetrator took some of our belongings and my Wife’s Car which has a “Tracker” tracking device in it.

After the perpetrator left with the vehicle we broke loose and we chased afterwards with my other vehicle when we passed a police vehicle, we flagged them down and they assisted they asked me if I have a tracking device in the vehicle and they phoned Tracker at about 10:30 PM. When tracker spoke to me on the phone they asked me a series of questions and after that they asked if they can start tracking the vehicle. I Confirmed and they said they will be in contact with my alternative number we gave them as our phones were ****** too.

We had high hopes because you trust in the company that you pay to search and recover vehicles. After all that is what they make you believe.

So we didn’t hear back from them at all but we received a call from the Police at 2:00 AM 9 January 2018 to say they have recovered a suspicious vehicle in a veldt. We asked if it was Tracker and they clearly stated no it was the police who found the vehicle.

Next day we haven’t heard anything from Tracker and the search continued to find at which pound my vehicle was at. So in the search I phoned tracker to find out if they know where the vehicle is. And they confirmed that they could track the vehicle because the unit was either ****** out of the vehicle or it was faulty.

We managed to get the vehicle after driving to 3 Police stations and trying to find the vehicle. The vehicle was at Benoni Pound (Van Ryns Pound). The two front wheels were ****** off and the cars computer box (ecu & cas) unit was ******. We released the vehicle and we towed it back to my home.

In this time Tracker has not contacted us with any information so I again contacted them. To ask them why the unit wasn’t working and when they found out that the unit wasn’t working and when they tried to contact me to confirm this and their simple answer was refer to the contract. That it is my duty to test the unit. I said what BS as Cartrack tests my unit on my other vehicle every three months. They also said their contract clearly states that they can’t be held responsible for loss or damage or not recovering their vehicle. Now I saw the contract last when we installed the unit 4 years ago. They do no effort to remind you of the contract or what’s within it. And they do not notify you that you are responsible for testing the unit and that they are not liable for tracking your vehicle.

I believe that their intentions are not to recover vehicles as far as I read on hellopeter and the long list of complaints. They rob people by advertising a service they don’t offer. And simply by not testing the unit regularly they place the risk on the client 100% and don’t take responsibility. I believe if I pay for a service to recover a vehicle I expect that it must be done as it is their responsibility as they are the experts you rely on to do so. I believe I incurred costs to repair the vehicle which wouldn’t have been the case if they simply delivered on their service.

This has caused inconvenience and unnecessary costs. I still don’t know why the unit isn’t working and I still pay monthly for it. I have phoned them a few times now and they still haven’t confirmed that the unit is faulty.

As the man on the street you rely on insurance to cover your belongings, a bank to keep your money safe and the car dealer to service your vehicle when you pay for it.

It is not right if a company say their job is to track and retrieve your vehicle but they do not do everything in their ability to do that. I pay more to tracker than what I’m paying Cartrack they have the ability to test the unit and notify me if the unit is working or not when I remove a battery terminal I get notified. When I get close to the border they notify me. And after you’ve been with Tracker for years you find out you have paid them for absolutely nothing.

They have a loophole in their service and I’m sure they milk it. If they were a company with good intentions they would send you an sms monthly every 3 month to say please remember to test your unit. To remind you but they rely on the fact that you saw your contract 4 years ago.
