Device connected directly to battery terminals, trains battery when car not in use.
So I recently took out car insurance by Santam and they required a unit from tracker to be installed to detect if my car gets involved in any collisions.
Tacker came and installed the unit, but it has been connected directly to the battery terminals. So the unit is always on, even if the cars engine is off.
Yesterday we had a family emergency, I got into my car only to find the battery completely dead. Called someone to come jump me, when they saw the device is connected directly to the battery they did not want to jump me in-case the unit gets damaged.
How can tracker install directly to the battery knowing this will drain the battery.
I contacted tracker this morning, they said they can send a technician out to come take a look. But if the technician does not find a fault, I will need to pay a 595 service fee. This is crazy, the unit drains my battery and I will need to pay a service fee.
I would like tracker to either connect their device that it is only on when the car is on or provide me with a solution. Before this device was installed, they did not mention anything about your car not being used often. So since I work from home, I don't drive much, now I have to deal with a flat battery every time I need to use my car.

A wonderful technician named Elton from tracker came out to take a look at my problem. He was able to see that my car's battery was being drained. When he saw this, he said he has seen this before and it is normally when the vehicle has another tracking unit installed, normally a older model.
He then proceeded to search for it, we found two tracker units hidden, he was able to remove the one. The second unit he could not find the exact location of the wiring, we could see where it goes but could not find all the places it is connected to. He was able to remove the fuse which helped in decreasing the power being used. There is still a little power being drained but could be due to the tracker that is still installed.
