3 things in life that are guaranteed: Death, Taxes, and paying your Tracker Premium.
Here’s a shout out to Tracker for the callous, apathetic dealings we’ve had with them over the last couple of days while trying to cancel my late Dad’s contract with them.
Needless to say my Dad has passed and as such the decision was made to sell his vehicle once his Estate was finalised and the car had been transferred to my Mom (as per his wishes). Dad passed away just over a year ago and as I’m sure you are all aware nothing happens with urgency or speed here in SA so while we waited for this to happen we maintained the contract and monthly premiums on both our cars which had Tracker. Finally the ownership change was made and the car sale was done so I contacted Tracker to cancel the policy on Dad’s car (I was planning on continuing the other policy) but on dealing with Tracker and I use the term loosely, their “Customer Service” Agent I was left with a very bitter taste in my mouth (not once but twice) on first contact with the call centre I explained what I would like to do and was promptly told that there was an amount of R1200.00 due on cancellation of the policy. I do understand the principle but I thought that under the circumstances perhaps there would be some leniency, dare I say compassion shown but apparently when you are running a business and every cent counts any decency to people / loyal customers goes out the window. I further went on to explain to the agent that we had 2 contracts with Tracker and we would happily continue with the existing contract once it came to an end (Sept 2019) or even take over the balance of the contract I was trying to cancel but I was just told bluntly that “I should have done it when my Dad died” which to be honest were not exactly the words I was expecting to hear. I promptly told the Agent that she could cancel the policy there and then and I would happily pay R1200.00 to cut all ties with a company that treats its customers with such disdain. Next I asked to speak to the “Customer Service” Manager and boy was I in for a another treat.
After a few minutes wait I was greeted by the Manager who launched straight into “I hear you are disputing the cancellation amount on your contract” to which I rep**** I had absolutely not disputed it, not once but had merely asked if in this type of situation (Death) there was perhaps some kind of arrangement to be made but was told in no uncertain terms nothing could be done other than move the balance of the contract to another vehicle, which of course was unhelpful as the other car was already covered by Tracker.
Please understand that I do not take my Dad’s death lightly, over the past year while trying to finalise his Estate I have had to deal with countless issues, idiots, red tape and inconsiderate people who clearly have never lost a loved one. One wouldn’t think it necessary but my only hope in writing this is that perhaps if in pointing out how difficult a situation this already is people might think twice about how they treat others and might now do so with some care, respect and decency.
That said I am only too happy to have cancelled both my contracts with Tracker because R2000.00 (1200 + 800) is absolutely nothing in comparison to the loss of my Dad.
Tracker, congratulations to you on the unnecessary loss of a loyal customer. I certainly hope that this money brings you a sense of comfort and helps you sleep better at night.
