Unfair and ridiculous REFUND/EXCHANGE policy!!

I find the refund policy at ToysRUs to be very unfair to the consumer. It was my daughters 3rd birthday 2 weeks ago and she received a duplicate present. When I went to Mall of the South to exchange it, I was told no can do unless I have a receipt...I mean really!!! Any shop you go to have no issues to exchange a gift, even when I buy toys I don't keep the slips nor do I put the slips with the present, it's just not ethical do to something like that. So I had to ask my family and friends to please look around to see if they could find a slip anywhere, and luckily they found it. But what if they didn't, I'd still be here with 2 of the same toys for my daughter. I really think ToysRUs should relook their policy in this respect and change it. I will never buy toys from them again because of this silly policy.
