I am taken aback by your Toys-R-Us' lack of sensitivity to critical matters of social importance to South Africans as reflected by your Oct-Dec 2017 catalogue. 1. You have a dizzying range of white dolls and no such display is given to dolls of other racial or cultural make. Casing point. out of the 71 dolls featured in this catalogue, only 3 are dark skinned and none are of African skin tone. This discriminatory representation is even worse in your stores. I find it difficult to find African themed dolls and toys in your stores especially the ones that showcase the kaleidoscope of culture and diversity present in our country. This is unacceptable. Frankly, I find it insulting as an African man that shops at your store on a monthly basis. In fact, when I got this catalogue my fiance and I had just finished paying R2500 at a store that we feel appreciates our money but not my ethnicity or culture. 2. Why are girls catalogued with the stereotypical "nurturing" toys whilst boys are catalogued with scientific and analytical toys? Girls are seen playing with dolls or brooding over eggs whilst boys are pictured looking through microscopes or constructing with mechanical tools. I feel this reflects lack of sympathy for women's struggle for equality as well as lack of sensitivity for those children who are of the LGTB(IQ) inclination. 3. Lastly having two white children playing with white dolls and two children of African and Indian descent also playing with white dolls does not go well with our diversity conscious generation. This plays into the destructive "white identity domination' that we Afropolitans detest. Your catalogue is so grievous, I do not want my 11-year-old daughter to peruse it. As a matter of fact, I feel as though I do not even want her to visit your stores because I believe your corporate values might subliminally insult her ethnic, cultural and gender design. Imagine the awkward position I would be in if I'd have to have a conversation about race at your store because I cannot indulge her whims of purchasing a doll for her because of your limited range of dolls? I'm a huge fan of your customer service. My fiance can attest to that. However, I might have to go to Baby City or Toy Zone across the road next time where their wares are little less offensive.
