Customer return loophole issue from toys r us
Extremely Disappointed with Customer Service and Unreasonable Return Policy at Toys R Us (Mall of the South) I am deeply frustrated with the atrocious customer service and rigid, anti-consumer policies at Toys R Us at Mall of the South. Yesterday, two of my 9-year-old triplets proudly used their own saved money to pick out and pay for toys independently—a milestone we were using to teach them about saving and spending responsibly. After opening them at home, they realized one had bought a refill pack for a slime maker, and the other had bought an add-on kit designed to be used with the slime maker. Neither toy was complete on its own. Wanting to fix the honest mistake and exchange them so they could actually get complete toys to play with, we went back to the store—intending to spend additional money right back in their shop. Instead, this turned into a heartbreaking and terrible experience for two young kids. We were flat-out refused an exchange or refund because the boxes had small tears from opening them. Here is the catch: the boxes were sellotaped shut. There is physically no way to open these products without breaking that tape and tearing the fragile packaging. Using a "damaged packaging" loophole on product boxes that are taped shut by default is an absolute **** of a policy. Any customer-centric retail store would have handled this with reasonable discretion and processed a simple exchange—especially for two excited 9-year-olds standing right there ready to swap their purchases. Toys R Us Mall of the South has completely lost our trust and our family's future business. If you are shopping for your kids, buy elsewhere—stores that actually value customer loyalty and treat young shoppers with basic fairness.
