7 Months wait for minor cellphone repairs.

I happened to drop my cellphone during a fishing trip on Father's Day earlier this year. The damage to my phone was not devistating, but nonetheless it had seen better days before taking the knock. My screen had shattered and lucky for me, I was going to have to get it repaired. Now I am no cellphone technician, but I rate my phone had been mildly damaged, upon further invesigation of course. I then took my phone to the Totalsports store where i had purchased it a good three years ago. I am fortunate enough to have a cellphone insurance plan written up somewhere in the digital world of online information. The insurace plan is offered when one buys a phone from these people.

I filled out a claim at the store, which seemed quite a laborious task for the people working there. Flip-files and flip-flops were fumbled through in search of all the documentation, as well as someone who actually knew the process. I was asked to kindly leave my cellphone at the store and it would be repaired in 6 weeks time. About a month later, I decide to give them a call at the Totalsports in Mall@Carnival, and find out that my phone hasnt been picked up yet from the insurance company. I told the person who phoned me that its okay. I asked that I please receive an email from someone as soon as it is ready for collection. In the past, I would usually have to phone them around 6-8weeks and then be told that my phone is ready for collection, or that it can be replaced. This time... I wasnt that lucky. To this day, I never recieved a single email from them...

Fastforward to last week. A space of about 6months later between myself and the last call I got from the cellphone insurance. It seemed like an eternity ago. I was told by a polite female voice that I would have to go into the store, pay the required R350 for the claim and repairs, and pick up my phone. 6weeks is certainly a long time when it comes to promises made by cellphone insurers. Despite the politeness in her voice, I was quite annoyed by my counterpart on the otherside of the phoneline.

A day or two later, I was called by Totalsports and told that I had to pay another R175 when I receive my phone. I was still reeling angrily from what he polite female voice had told me, and now this?

Anyway, long story short, I am thoroughly disappointed with the service I got. I didnt pay the polite voice, but I did have to pay R175 for 'labour'. I now have my phone back, but the next time I encounter a shattered screen or leaky battery, I'll consider my options before investing my trust and premiums in the cellphone insurance providers or employees at the Totalsports store in Mall @ Carnival. I suggest you do the same to avoid lengthy inconveniences and poor customer service.
