UNPROFESSIONAL BUSINESS ETHICS
Good day My name is Valerie and i have been working for Toshka Retail Solutions since 30/05/2019 as a part-time worker as a QC at Clicks Warehouse in Montague Gardens. In September 2019 all our staff went on strike due to short pay and it was not the first time this happened. When we queried it, it took almost a month for them to sort it out and in the mean time we had a meeting with the manager Gerrit. H e is the only contact that we had to make queries of anything that we requested. We did not receive any payslips, contracts or night allowance. At the meeting we asked him why all of those documents and proof was not in place and why our monies was short as well as contact details of the company. When our staff went on strike, Ancilla who was also a QC was contacted by Wynne from the Head Office in Johannesburg with questions about the strike and he also informed her that they lost the contract with VALUE. This was terrible news for all the staff because we knew it would affect all of us. All we wanted was to be paid for hours worked. Most of us worked night shifts and a few worked nights and day shifts and sometimes even doubles. After a few weeks it was sorted but the VALUE contract was lost. We all knew that Gerrit was to blame and most of the staff got there back-pay. Unfortunately for me, I'm still sitting with that problem. I have not yet received all my payments due to not having their contact details. After many emails and messages I finally got the email address of the HR manager Jan Bester who also refused to give me the companies address and email. I then asked for my UIF 19 after 3 weeks, I finally received it last week. I can finally go ahead with the proceedings now that I have the address and full company name. The address is not on the contracts or payslips and no contact details. I am happy that I reported them to the proper authorities concerning all our staffs queries and thank everyone for assisting my colleagues and their families. Unfortunately my queries and back pay still needs to be sorted. I was told that Head Office did not know what the manager in Cape Town was doing but I still find that hard to believe that the top management did'nt know what was happening in their company. It is their business to know what goes on in your company.
It was very difficult for me as a 49 year old, full time student to work those hours and go straight to college to attend my classes as I am a disabled person. I finished my first year and it was very hard but I'm proud to say I made it.
