TOPMED

Father was diagnosed with colon cancer. Doctor needs to perform Laparoscopic Hemicolectomy tomorrow 30 July 2019. Father is diabetic and 70 years old but Topmed insist on open surgery!! This is high risk for my old age diabetic father! Does not make sense at all. Cancer patients cannot be treated this way!!

Dear Leoni J

Please note that the procedure was pended for a letter of motivation. The letter of motivation has now been received and indicates that the procedure is clinically appropriate. The authorisation has been granted.

Kind Regards

Hi Shaun
Thank you for your speedy response. This is a difficult time for the patient and the family. We appreciate your feedback. Please also advise: The sms received with the authorisation number indicates a stay of 1.5 days? I think this is not possible for such an operation.

Leoni

The case has been approved for 1.5 days thus far. The hospital will need to send a case update to Topmed for the authorisation to be extended please.
