Endless struggle and Rip-off
I pay over R 6 000 insurance per month (yes, for one person), for the top medical aid plan which is a total waste of money. I have had oncology bills unpaid for over half a year, and there is often push-back for not paying many medical expenses. There is lack of transparency as to what members are entitled to, and they push customers from pillar to post to delay/avoid payments. Because I have a rare cancer which I need special treatment for, they will not pay because they are not forced to in terms of prescribed minimum benefits. Even though I am prepared to pay for the treatment myself, they have the cheek to say that they will not cover anything if further issues arise from the treatment.
I cannot imagine that any medical aid is worse, more troublesome or as much of a waste of money. I seriously regret joining this medical aid. In addition to the stress of having an illness, dealing with this medical aid is even more stressful. When I have become upset with the Private Health Administrator I deal with, she said I should see a psychologist! (Who would not be upset after being diagnosed with cancer and the medical aid does not provide financial support needed - even though I'm paying for the most expensive plan?!) TopMed did not pay for morphine under chronic medication, when it only costs a couple hundred Rand for a few months supply. I could list a bunch of other issues.
Consider all other medical aids first.
When it was still Pharos, the service was excellent. Since it has become TopMed, the way members are treated is an abomination.
