Toebroodjie, your path to the ER
This restaurant embodies what is wrong with restaurants in this day and age. Bad service, arrogant staff and a chef that hides behind a lack of clear laws.
When my son had an allergic reaction to fish they blamed him for not disclosing his allergy. This after he ordered a sandwich called a Chicken Sando (Japanese Milk Bread, Crumbed Chicken, PeriPeri, Cucumber Pickle and Lettuce). Now, call me blond but it makes no sense to ask if this would have fish in it. Anyway, after having an allergic reaction he approached his waiter and asked if there was fish in the dish. Her response was that there wasn’t any fish in any of the sandwiches. Making you wonder what the response would have been if he did alert her to his allergy before eating. Overhearing my son’s conversation with his waitress the manager corrected her saying that the restaurant uses the same oil to fry both Oysters and Chicken. I am no rocket scientist, but this is obviously cross contamination (Google search this… it’s a no brainer).
My son had to be rushed to emergencies incurring a nice medical bill. Going back to the manager and, the chef ***ner) he was met with a sense of hostility and arrogance blaming him for his own fate by not disclosing his allergy.
I am taken aback by the lack of remorse the staff (and owner) showed my son, not even asking how he was doing after the incident. I am further taken aback that a chef with such pedigree allows her kitchen to use the same oil to fry both shellfish and chicken. One would think that chefs know there are 2 allergies that are rather serious and can kill: Shellfish and nuts. At the very least they should at least have labelled the use of oil for both purposes on their menu.
Be very careful when visiting this establishment, not disclosing your allergy might cost you your life.
