False accusations and Racial profiling
On Friday 23rd August my friend and I were racially profiled and accused of having ******* substances in our possession at the Toad on the Road in Lakeside. We were enjoying a beverage when the bouncer came up to our table, leaned over my friend and asked us "Where is the ****?". I thought it was a joke because a few minutes before that we had noticed the smell of marijuana in the air. So I laughed and told him the we smell it too. He then asked us again "Where is the ****?". This is when I realised that it was not a joke and he was accusing us of having marijuana on us. My friend then showed him the bag of tabacco that he had and told him that he has tabacco on him but that's all. This is when the bouncer then said "I was with my coloured friends a few days ago and we smoked **** out of a machine (Vape)". And then he asked us where is our Vape. My friend and I do not even own vapes. This is when I realised that he was blatantly accusing us of having **** on us and the fact that he mentioned that he had smoked **** through a vape with his coloured friends before, (keep in mind that my friend and I are coloured). This is a form of racial profiling and we will not stand for this. He also said that someone at the restaurant was complaining that there was a marijuana smell in the air. He then came to our section, he walked past everyone else and came to us as we were the only non-whites sitting that specific area. We then addressed him on the way he approached us and told him that he was wrong, he then kept on changing the subject. He then had nothing to say and called the manager to deal with us. The manager George calmed the situation down but I felt this this issue has to be addressed.
