Held Ransom - Discovery - TWT Ballito

My son took his Swift last week for the Discovery multipoint check and was advised that he couldn't have it passed as the tire tread was below 1mm. After this I checked all the tires and they all had around 3 mm tread depth which is above the 1.7mm Discovery advised me of after a call to them.

I went to the TWT Ballito myself this morning as my car was due as well for the check. Straight from the beginning the salesman started trying to add sales without carrying out the actual Multicheck. Asking when the tyres were balanced and rotated. (not part of the check) I asked what the requirement for Discovery was regarding the tread depth and he advised there must be sufficent tread, I asked him the required depth and he could not say what it was. He did not even check the depth with a tread depth indicator.

I got my son to bring his Swift back so we could measure his tyres again. And yes it passed as they never used the tool nor did they know how to use it. I measured the tyres with the tool and got 2.7mm to 3mm arcoss the tire. (a PASS) The manager even came and measured the tyres however he measured ON the tread wear indicator! That is one way to reduce the measurement quickly.

Previously my wife had a similar expirence with the same branch for the multipoint check. They would not give the pass as the tyres were expired......Not a Discovery requirement either. That time we visited a branch in Durban and passed the check without an issue within a week and no change to the tyres.
