Card Cloning and no assistance
A complaint on behalf of my elderly mother.
On 16/03/2021 at 11:33:56 my mother made a purchase at the Tiger Wheel and Tire, Newmarket Branch in Alberton, Gauteng.
During the sale, an employee (other than the cashier) requested my mother to hand him her card so that he can verify the transaction. Since she is not aware of how things are being done, she handed him her card.
On that very same day, purchases when through her card for two amounts (R9999 and R5998) - Her card was cloned.
Tiger Wheel and Tire was the shop where that she has used her credit card, and she has not used in in many weeks.
On 6 April we went to the shop and requested to speak to the manager – he was phoned on two occasions earlier and did not bother to return her call.
During the visit the manager confirmed that a sales representative is not supposed to handle any cards or cash and this is only done by the casher.
We requested that he please check the camera footage. He was very helpful in promising to do many things such as to check cameras, contacting the Alberton Police station and also to bring the matter under the attention of Head office.
She was told that according to the police there is nothing they can do. This is something we know! We wanted an investigation within the branch and we demanded to see the camera footage.
Up to now, neither she nor me received any written communication that –
This matter was investigated; and The way forward.
I am deeply disappointed in how this matter was handled. I have no evidence to accuse any employee of Tiger Wheel and Tire, but the way that this matter was handled up to now shows to me that the company (branch) is protecting their employees even though there is a possibility of ******** activity.
I sincerely hope that anyone reading this from Alberton will ensure that they take extra precautions when making a purchase at this particular branch.
