Italian trip losses TIC not at all interested.
I am not sure why I am sharing this experience as it is obvious that TIC and SANTAM do not care even a little bit about their policy holders.
I was unable to report 2 incidents in Italy however contacted my broker to let her know about both matters. On arriving back in SA and trying to complete all the admin our claim was repudiated.
Details: I lost my wedding ring in Italy: We do not know exactly where I lost my ring so where would we report it - how do we know at which town it occurred and therefore which police station to go to? I noticed it was gone in a small town outside Levanta and assumed it might have come off while I in the sea. We were staying in a small village called Piazza Giacomo Matteotti that did not have a police station. Even if we wanted to report it in another bigger town in the area that might have a police station, we were leaving early the next morning to go to Lisio, which is a 2.5 hour trip away through mostly narrow mountain roads and had people we had to meet.
We lost a suitcase: By the time we realized our suitcase was missing we were over 260 km away from Cattolica, the town where we had left it. This is not 260 km of freeway but rather narrow rural roads and mountain passes. It took us 6 hours to reach our next destination (Casalincontrada). It would be completely unreasonable to expect us to ride back, through the night, to the town it occurred (Cattolica), get a police report and return to our accommodation. This would be a 12 hour trip straight after the initial 6 hour journey. It is ********* (and unsafe) to expect us to ride on those narrow, unlit roads to travel the combined18 hours non stop.
Even if we had done this the language is a major issue - Italian officials can not (or will not) speak English. Getting a police report when a ******** matter had not occurred would have been almost impossible.
We stayed in remote Airbnb's, and for much of the time we had no internet connectivity and would not have been able to access our documents to see what requirements there was for a claim (Particularly the two towns we stayed in when we realized there was a loss). We therefore notified our broker, who we thought was the correct authority, via email when we were in a town and able to do so. As we were traveling we were not able to check properly for responses.
It is blatantly clear that TIC are not at all interested in honoring their policies. I will make it my mission to let everybody I speak with know to AVOID TIC and SANTAM at all costs.
