Thermamasta: Take the money and run.

Thermamasta is basically a one-man show run by a chap by the name of Dawie de Jager.

Around five years ago I had Dawie replace the torch on product on my flat-roofed house with his polyurethane product and Hydroflex paint. It cost me R100K. Last year June I contracted Dawie to do full service on my roof to prepare the structure for re-plastering and painting of the outside walls. He charged me R15K.

Two weeks after the servce I had my paint and plastering contractor to inspect the roof prior to starting his work. He told me that Dawie the waterproofing was not properly done and suggested that the job be corrected before he started working on the walls. In addition to unpainted spots on the roof where water could get though, areas of the product had delaminated from the concrete which, apparently, is not good.

I asked Dawie to back and redo the job properly. Many, many times from July through to December. Despite repeated promises that he’d come back he never did.

Over the last couple of weeks it rained quite heavily here in Joburg, I had water dripping into my house from the roof in three different places. I had to put buckets on the floor to catch water drippingfrom the roof in the lounge, my bedroom and in the bathroom. Water was literally flowing down the wall in my bedroom cupboard.

This is the quality of work you can expect from Thermamasta.

In January I sent Dawie lawyer’s letter demanding my money back. He hasn’t bothered to respond. As soon as the courts reopen to the public I will be suing him.

I will get my money back from Dawie if he’s still in business. But hopefully I can spare others the same trouble. If you are considering contracting Thermamasta to do work for you, don't do it. Rather go to a more reputable company for your waterproofing needs.
