Thelle Mogoerane hospital - Death trap
To find the right words to explain my anger inside towards the staff at this disgusting excuse of a health care facility, I wish nothing but struggles, pain sickness and severe suffering to each and every person who played a part in the last week of my Dad's life on this earth.
My Dad was unfortunately taken to this hospital by ambulance from our local clinic and admitted on 22 June 2022. My Mom sat the entire day with him at the casualty department and eventually was chased away the evening where she had to leave my Dad lying on a broken stretcher, no food, no pillow and no blanket. She wasn't even allowed to take his bag with clean clothes and toiletries in that I had packed for him and taken through. My Dad was extremely ill. His condition was critical. He had extremely high blood pressure, his sugar was on 23 and his heart was getting more and more damaged by the second. He was struggling so bad to breath and needed urgent care.
Visiting hours are ridiculous, it makes it so difficult for family and friends to visit loved ones. The next morning we started calling the landline numbers to find out how my Dad is doing. After being shifted from pillar to post we eventually found out that he had been lying in the same spot as my Mom left him the previous night and their excuse was that they had no beds available for him. This was so shocking to hear and we rushed to the hospital asap to see what was going on.
After 2 full days, he finally went to medical ward 21 and had some sort of bed to lay on. THANK GOODNESS we took a pillow and warm blanket because he was freezing cold and basic items like that were none existing. We never got to meet or speak to the actual doctor who was treating him. When we asked for an update we were told he is getting treated for his condition. After a day or two my Dad was physically feeling a bit better so I was at peace knowing that he is getting treated for his condition and he was adamant that he was going to stay there until he is completely better. On Saturday the 25th of June 2022 I got to see my Dad for the 1st time since he was admitted. He looked worried, scared and concerned but he said that he was feeling much better and he was able to get off from the bed and walk to the toilet himself.
There were about 5 other gentlemen in the same ward as my Dad and he was fond of the elderly to his left. It was an old Madala and him and my Dad seemed like they were the eldest of them all. I had about 30min to see my Dad, hear how things are inside that horrific hospital and try assure him that everything is going to be ok. I looked around at everything inside the ward, it was definitely not a place to go for healing and recovery of health. My Dad had a drip inside his arm, it was blocked and bleeding and obviously not inserted correctly. There were no nurses in sight to report this too. The lights inside the room were flickering the whole time I actually had a headache from it and couldn't understand that such a photosensitive issue in a hospital was left unfixed. The power cords on all the emergency seeking bells to call a nurse for assistance was cut, my Dad couldn't carry a short conversation without breathing difficult and there was no oxygen in the ward at all.
Nonetheless, I tried cheering my Dad up and had to rush outside so that my Mom could see him as well before time was up. I hugged him goodbye, he told me that he Loved me which was something he never did before but I left believing that he is safe and in good hands. I was hopeful, but felt very uneasy.
That evening just past 7pm my Dad called my Mom to say hi and tell her that he is very tired and going to rest. He was fine, he sounded like he was ok. The 26 of June 2022, at roughly 8: 30am the hospital calls my Mom and says that we must come to the hospital immediately because my Dad's condition has worsened overnight and doctors are trying to resuscitate him. In an extreme panic we head out and before we could get onto the highway they called again to say that he just passed away. We were told to only come the following morning to sign documents, collect his belongings and identify his body. Monday the 27th of June 2022, we were at the hospital early morning and heartbroken to face the day ahead. It was tedious, emotional and confusing for myself and my Family. We were greeted by a male nurse who couldn't give us any information on his death but he handed us a big yellow plastic bag with his clothing etc and said that we must go down to the mortuary to sign documents and identify him. When we got to the mortuary we were asked if our undertaker is ready to take his body away and we had no idea what to do or say. No one could give us any information, no one explained the procedure to us and we had to gather our thoughts and get in contact with the nearest undertaker to assist. After numerous hours of waiting, standing in the freezing cold outside, finally our undertaker arrived and we were able to view his body. An emotional experience, lost and confused we were able to leave knowing that he is being taken to a safe place and we could now make arrangements for his cremation and memorial.
Its been almost 8weeks since his passing and up until today no one has been able to give me a name of the doctor who was treating him. I have asked for info on why he died and the exact time and no answers yet. If his condition worsened overnight or during the night why did no one call us sooner.
I believe that my Dad died at this disgusting place due to negligence from *********** nurses and doctors and I will not rest until I find the truth. Why are these healthcare professionals not there to do the jobs they are employed to do and studied for? If they are unhappy in that profession then why don't they leave? There is absolutely no excuse for any of them to mistreat patients or neglect those in their care because that is the job they wanted and they have no right to do so to anyone. The entire experience of having a loved one in a government hospital has been traumatizing and sickening and I wish this pain upon no one else.
The Minister of Health needs to be informed about the severity of this hospital and unprofessional staff serious urgent attention needs to be given to sort it out. Get off your uneducated ass, use the highly overpaid salary you earn monthly and do something about this place. Its a death trap, it's a horror and its very much real.
Minister of Health, this cannot continue or else we will be left to take matters into our own hands but answers WE WILL GET!
Thelle Mogoerane hospital should be closed down and never be able to open up again EVER!
To the nurses and doctors associated with my Dads passing, I will not stop until someone takes responsibility for his death. I will not stop please take note!
Rating: definitely zero and NOT recommended EVER!
