Venue at Fairview Winterton review
My Honest Experience at The Venue at Fairview I recently had my wedding at The Venue at Fairview. It’s a beautiful venue with great potential, and overall, my wedding day turned out lovely — everything came together perfectly after eight months of planning and coordinating with various suppliers. However, I want to share a few concerns that future clients should be aware of. I was initially quoted around R24,000 for a wedding planner, but I decided to handle the planning myself. I worked closely with the catering company, Service Excellence, through Nicky, who suggested creating a WhatsApp group with all suppliers involved — which I did. The setup day went smoothly, and the wedding itself was wonderful. But after the event, issues arose regarding my refundable deposit of R10,000. I was told that a monogram decal placed on the floor (done by my supplier, Fame Productions, who did an amazing job with the music, photography, and videography) had left marks on the floor. Nicky informed me that R2,500 would be deducted from my deposit to repair the floor. I was surprised because normal wear and tear should be expected during an event, and I had not been clearly informed that no tape or decals were allowed on the floor. When I asked to see where this was stated in the terms and conditions, Nicky couldn’t show me — instead, she referred to a WhatsApp message sent to the supplier group, which I wasn’t monitoring as I was focused on my big day. Additionally, I noticed that other marks and scratches, including a large one near the kitchen area, were also blamed on my supplier, even though those areas had nothing to do with them. I requested an invoice or proof of the repair costs but received none — the money was simply deducted from my deposit. To add to this, the owner of the venue was quite rude on the wedding day. My suppliers even mentioned that they felt uncomfortable with the tone and attitude displayed, which dampened what should have been a completely joyful experience. I’m generally easy-going and didn’t want to turn it into an argument, but I do believe in transparency and fairness. In summary, The Venue at Fairview is a beautiful place to host a wedding, but I recommend that future clients get all communication and rules in writing, confirm all setup restrictions clearly, and request detailed proof before any deductions are made from deposits. And perhaps, the owner could be a bit more courteous in dealing with clients and suppliers — it makes a big difference on such an important day.
