Parking at any mall should not have customers worrying about having cash on hand. It seems that the Pavillion Shopping Centre (Westville) has taken 10 steps back by accepting only cash. I was found wanting at the pay parking last week frantically looking for cash…counting the unwanted cents thrown into the vehicle to make up the R10.

Technology has evolved. Customers prefer not to carry cash due to risks involved. The management of Pavillion Shopping Centre should ‘wake-up’ technologically and update their systems to include electronic payments. If they believe that there is a cost to collecting via electronic means, then they must raise the parking fee accordingly. There is no excuse to accept cash-only unless you operate a business in the ‘back-yard’
