False Advertising - Paid for a bed when there was no stock
On 17 December 2025, The Mattress Warehouse advertised the Slumberland Bayside mattress online. I purchased it immediately via PayFast, with the expectation of the stated 6–10 business day delivery period.
When I followed up on 18 December to confirm the expected delivery date, I was informed by Abigail—only after payment had been processed—that the item was in fact not in stock and would only be ordered once the manufacturer reopens in January. This is a clear case of false advertising and accepting payment for an item that was never available. Based on this information, I would only receive the mattress towards the end of January, which completely defeats the purpose of purchasing online for timely delivery.
I therefore requested a refund. Yet again, I was met with another unacceptable issue: I am now told that the refund may take up to two weeks to process. This is not standard practice, nor is it professional. You took my payment instantly, and I expect the refund to be processed just as quickly, through the same method I paid—immediately, not weeks later.
It is entirely unreasonable, particularly during the Christmas period, that you retain my money while providing neither the product nor a timely refund. I am now unable to purchase another bed because you are holding onto funds for an item you could not supply.
At present, you have my money, and I am left without the bed I urgently needed. This experience is extremely disappointing and reflects very poorly on your business practices.
